Welcome to Fi.Gee’s first post! I’ll start with a little icebreaker and introduce myself; my name’s Fiona, I’m 22 years old, I’m living at home in Lincolnshire and I’m currently planning to venture into the world of work once the Coronavirus pandemic starts to ease a little bit.
The inspiration behind the name Fi.Gee is a combination of my first name and my middle name, Grace. I’ve always used them both in my social media handles, so I felt this was an easy link to make across most of my online platforms.
As a typical British girl in her twenties, my interests include all things fashion and beauty related, a good Netflix binge, a messy night out with her best pals, and advocating for self care – face masks, candles, the LOT! So, this blog is the perfect place to combine all these topics and more; I believe in presenting a personal and honest perspective in my writing, which is ever more important in a world driven by unreliable bias and ‘fake news’.
Here are three other key reasons as to why I wanted to start this blog:
1) I love writing
Throughout school and university, many teachers, friends and family members have told me that my writing is great, which has always been a huge confidence booster (not to blow my own trumpet or anything!). I attempted to start a blog during sixth form but my insecurities got the better of me, therefore deciding not to push it forward. However, having reflected on my personal growth during university and taken the opportunity to improve my skill base, I found that the writing process is something I really enjoy doing and I’m no longer afraid to showcase my thoughts to a wider audience.
2) I want to improve my writing for a future career
As the graduate jobs market becomes ever more saturated with new talent, the world of work suddenly seems very daunting for someone fresh out of university. So, this blog will help build and adapt my writing style for an online audience; as they say, practice makes perfect!
3) I want to share my interests with people
Personally, there’s no better feeling than seeing your friends or family members enjoying a film/book/TV show that you recommended, which is what I aim to do with Fi.Gee! Sharing interests, advice and recommendations is a great way to connect and resonate with like-minded people, creating meaningful relationships both in and outside the blogging community.
Thank you so much for starting this journey with me; see you on my next post!
Fiona xx
